The Terry Foundation offered their scholarship to Josh Hundl, Avery Rabon, and My Hahn Nguyen. Each of these students met the criteria to get this scholarship.
“The Terry scholarship is a prestigious scholarship based on academic achievement, leadership, and your extra-curricular activities,” Senior, Avery Rabon said.
The Terry Foundation Scholarship is a scholarship that gives students a full ride to college who otherwise wouldn’t get to go due to lack of money and three studens at our school have gotten it.
“I was so excited and relieved that I would be able to go to college without loans. It was an amazing feeling,” Rabon said.
A small number of people each year get the Terry scholarship. It is mainly offered to kids who have financial need.
“I wanted the scholarship for the money. I am going to the University of Texas, so this helps a lot,” Nguyen said.
The money helps lots of students each year. It is a very difficult scholarship to get because it’s offered to so few students each year.
“Mrs. Reed encouraged me to go out for the scholarship so I just did. I didn’t want to set my hopes too high in case I didn’t get it,” Nguyen said.
Each student has to have $75,000 or less in financial aid in order to qualify for it, but if they do get it, it’s like having a full ride to a college.
“I was offered two other scholarships but I had to decline them because I wanted the Terry scholarship,” Nguyen said.
With it being such a big scholarship it’s a very slim chance that students would get it.
When most found out they got it, they were really excited and grateful.
“I’m so grateful to the Terry Foundation. I’ve known my whole life that I never want to be in debt, and that includes student loans. They were never an option for me. And my parents had no means of helping me pay for college. So my only option was scholarships. The fact that a group of people I don’t even know wants to pay for me to go to college still blows me away, and I could not possibly be more grateful.” Hundl said.
