Making it to state is a huge accomplishment for anyone. However, making it to state twice is something very few people have the opportunity to do. N’dia Warren-Jacques was one of those lucky people.
“I felt really happy when I found out that I made it to state,” Sophomore, N’dia Warren-Jacques said.
Someone who has the opportunity to go to state twice is usually someone who worked really hard and deserved to be there.
“It felt good to make it again because all my hard work paid off and I lived up to everyone’s expectations,” Warren-Jacques said.
Luckily, she doesn’t have to travel far to compete.
“This year the state competition is being held in Austin, Texas on May 11 and 12,” Warren-Jacques said.
The hardest challenges she had to face was at regionals and at Texas Relays.
“Texas Relays was one of the, if not the hardest competition I had been to, although regionals was a close second. Those competitions were the hardest because the schools there were really tough and had a lot of great track stars,” Warren-Jacques said.
It was excellent news that she made it to state, but unfortunately, she was the only one from ORHS to make it.
“It was great finding out that I made it to state, but it was surprising, hearing I was the only one going, because so many other people deserved to be there with me,” Warren-Jacques said.
There is a huge difference between making it to state your freshman year than there is making it your sophomore year.
“Last year there was more competition, but this year I had to work harder to guarantee my spot in state. I also set a new personal record this year because of all my hard work,” Warren-Jacques said.
Training is just one aspect that you need. Mental preparation is just as important as anything else.
“I’m really nervous going into state because there is a lot of good track stars that will be there and honestly I don’t think I can win because of all the great talent that will be there,” Warren-Jacques said.
People learn many things from competing at such a high level.
“Some things I have learned is that you should never give up and always work harder because were still in high school and have our whole lives ahead of us. This wont last forever,” Warren-Jacques said.
